Gary Demeter James
Decision Support Analyst
Ten years designing how HR decisions get made.
Now I'm applying that lens to data analysis.
About
I've spent the last decade in HR process design and decision support at Google — hiring, promotions, performance management, retention, org effectiveness, and workforce planning. The thread across all of it has been using evidence to make decisions better: codifying institutional knowledge into transferable frameworks, designing processes that align talent to business needs, and recommending changes to senior leaders. I work from a structured method — define the problem, align on goals, generate options, evaluate against criteria, recommend with projected impact.
I'm now building the technical analyst layer through coursework and a project portfolio. The longer arc I'm aiming for is decision science and operations design — but the analyst seat is the next step.
Featured Projects
Pay Isn’t the Problem
IBM Employee Attrition Analysis
A logistic regression analysis of IBM's 16.1% attrition rate that overturned the initial pay hypothesis, identified the actual drivers, and produced a self-funding intervention recommendation projected to reduce attrition by approximately 27%.
Where Are Massachusetts Public Schools Struggling?
Statewide K-12 Outcomes Analysis
An analysis of 1,800 Massachusetts public schools. Identified nine underperforming districts and found that 10th-grade math performance is more strongly correlated with college readiness than class size.
Decision-Architecture Work
Frameworks I've designed — selected from a larger body of work.
Candidate Evaluation Framework
Synthesized thousands of executive hiring decisions into transferable evaluation principles. The framework continues to train roughly 2,100 evaluators across approximately 200 hiring committees, providing decision-makers with criteria-based guidance plus situational judgment.
Promotion Prioritization Framework
Designed a framework for prioritizing high-volume promotion review cycles, supporting decision-makers align promotion decision to business needs.
The Butterfly Blueprint
A personal research project tracing musical influences across a curated 248-song guide. Designed a custom four-stage taxonomy (Egg, Caterpillar, Chrysalis, Butterfly) to organize the analysis across twelve themes. Demonstrates pattern recognition, taxonomy design, and sustained investigative depth on a chosen subject.
